
Previously, Mr. Douglas was the Assistant Director of Bands at James Madison University where he conducted the Symphonic Band and assisted with the 350 member Marching Royal Dukes and the JMU Pep Band in addition to teaching courses in music education. While at JMU he has traveled with the ensembles to Paris, France, Monte Carlo, Monaco, Genoa, Italy, Athens, Greece, and Dublin, Ireland.
His graduate studies were completed at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he earned his Masters and Specialist degrees in Music Education and was on the staff of The Michigan Marching Band. He also developed his skills in music technology and assisted and taught workshops on that topic. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His first public school teaching position was in Glendale, Wisconsin where he was the Director of the Glen Hills Middle School Band. He then moved to the Mequon-Thiensville School District in Wisconsin to teach at both the middle and high school levels where he served as Director of Bands at Homestead High School where he directed the Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Color Guard. While at Homestead, he was also involved in private music teaching and the Lake Band, a community youth band located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he organized a competitive Winter Guard program and was awarded Most Improved Color Guard by the Midwest Color Guard Circuit.
A native of New Jersey, Mr. Douglas is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Pi Kappa Lambda, and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. He is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, the Music Educators National Conference, and the Technology Institute for Music Educators. He is active as an adjudicator of marching units and concert ensembles throughout the United States. He is also active as a drill designer and consultant for marching units across the United States. Mr. Douglas is also a clinician for Pygraphics of Grapevine, Texas where he serves as a technology consultant.
